I am an inventory selector for ALDI. i am going to be a college grad in december. I have worked with them for almost 4 months now and if you latch on to the right person ALDI is a great place to work. Once you get your foot in the door and show that you want to move up they will help you achieve that. The views on this blog are correct. You need to have some serious luck to get a job coming in right off the street. I went through the first interview for the district manager position and have a follow up on the 30th. As with any job if they are going to pay you 70k a year your going to be doing some work. If your not interesting in working hard or competitive dont waste your time applying. Go work for the government. ALDI is old school. Paper applications and newspaper recruiting. Millions of people apply and you are lucky if they pick your app out of the stack.

Comment on Are Anti-Tattoo and Piercing Policies Discriminatory? by Jamie

Actually, refusing to hire a person based on the fact that they have visible tattoos and/or piercings IS discrimination, regardless of what you may or may not think. The fact that it was a choice has little to do with it. It is there and it is what it is.

I have a human resources and management degree and believe me, saying a person cannot work at your company because they have piercings or tattoos IS a discriminatory act and opens your company to a very disasterous law suit.
There are plenty of companies who have become more willing to hire employees with body modifications because they understand this. Kohl's is a perfect example of this, and yes I work for them and I also have a fair number of body mods. Most of my tattoos are coverable; however, if I wear a skirt or capris I have a tattoo on my calf that is very visible. If I wear short sleeve shirts, the tattoo on my left arm is visible. No matter what I wear, the tattoo on the back of my neck is visible. I have both eyebrows pierced, my lip is pierced twice in the corner, my labret is pierced, and, when I was interviewed, my septum was pierced - I was interviewed by the store manager and HR director, btw. When an employee asked about her forearm tattoo, she was told by one of the ASMs that Kohl's takes equal opportunity employer literally and seriously.

Just because you find tattoos and/or piercings "disgusting" does not mean everybody else does. I think that some people do go overboard, but I also do not judge as GOD is the only one capable of judging me. Remember that, since you are spouting secular and religious beliefs. The Bible states "judge not lest ye be judged." The mindset you take on is the reason instances like the Holocaust occurred - it is closed-mindedness and a refusal to accept that which is different from you. The world would be a boring place if all of us looked exactly the same.

I suggest that you buy a Mega Millions lottery ticket twice a week. You'll have better luck.

1. for district mgr 24 years old or less. No experience with Bachelors or Master Degree. (Many companies do this same type of profiling... A large transportation company is one of them)
2. In store, asst. mgr, and clerks, maximum High School. Any college need not apply.
3. I've seen 7 days of job fairs, about 300-400 people per day. About 3000-4000 applicants for 25 positions, and they'll still have a couple more job fairs. I think it's just getting their name out... There are no real jobs.

These are only opinions and based on local job fair observations over the past 2-3 months.

I suggest not working for this company. They have changed tremendously in the last few years (I worked is a district for a number of years) and they are SHADY. The presidents are a bunch of pricks and really will only look at you if you kiss their a**. They want things done only in one way, and the vacations are a joke. No one tells you that you have NO personal time. You still continue to get calls on weekends and vacations, and if you don't answer your phone, you are given the third degree. They find anything and everything to write you up for if they want to get rid of you. I HOPE ALDI GOES UNION. It will be exactly what they deserve

I think you have do the same personal development things to stay employed as you to stay self employed. I don't think self employment is a better guarantee of continued employment.

I think a time like this will also set apart the people that are truly driven to succeed, and the people that somewhat loaf. When employment is at three percent, its expected that companies are going to be hiring the wrong people for the job.

When unemployment is at ten, and there are tons more applicants for the same jobs, the right hiring decisions are more likely to be made. This is great for businesses - and job-seekers, if they realize that now they don't have to settle for "Well they'll take me," but instead can find a job that's both a perfect fit for them and the organization. Why not be positive?

The computer mumbo jumbo, upload, down the load, re-fi, hi-fi, we-fry, java the script, cookie monster blocker, roman times, codeword, password, log in code----ALL a farce. Snail mail and having a cogent discussion face to face is where it is at. Stop the twitter, the twattering, blueberrying, whatever the generation y-ers still living at home or off of dead money.

The hiring process is rigged; nepotism, cronyism, having right last name, buddyism, and ageism are all used to play the interview/resume pogo stick game. In the end the "jobs" either do not exist or they already have 1-2 sheeple in mind. The corporate swine in USA terry nickell dime their employees, sqeeuze the lemon dry, and care only about $$$$, HB-1 visas, and greed. Ethics, honor, and integrity are relics from the past.

Small talk is an essential skill to have. Quite often I have made some some ice breaking comments to candidates about traffic, weather etc and been quite stunned at the lack of conversational skills.

I always suggest that candidates keep an eye on local news when going for interviews.

Small talk with the receptionist (good and bad) has a habit of filtering back...
