Matthew Blevins

MattMatthew, known as “Matt” to his friends and associates, was born in Baltimore, Maryland in June, 1974 and grew up in the Baltimore suburb of Pasadena.

In 1996, after graduating magna cum laude with a degree in Economics from Mount Saint Mary’s College, Matt worked briefly with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. He then moved on to Legg Mason, a regional brokerage and money management firm with headquarters in Baltimore. While there he discovered that his mildly misanthropic tendencies and consistent irritation at being told what to do were strongly at odds with his position at the bottom rung of the corporate ladder.

This discovery, coupled with an innate entrepreneurial drive, led to the inevitable founding of his first company in 1997. Together with lifelong friend and longtime business partner Mick Wist, Matt has engaged in various entrepreneurial pursuits and now looks back at his former workaday life with a sense of detached bemusement.

Matt enjoys writing brief biographies for web sites and produces all of them in the third person, even when writing about himself. He also enjoys aggressive lounging and general lollygagging. Further, he is convinced that he was born in the wrong era, and would prefer to have been in the Lewis and Clark party as they forged across the American West in the early 19th century. In that spirit, Matt swears that he will one day move to Montana, purchase a huge spread of land, and live out his days fishing for trout in his own personal river.

In that rather rudimentary analysis, I pointed out that so many people want CNA jobs that even Baltimore, with a wealth […]

Baltimore CNA Jobs a Hot Commodity…for Job Seekers

By: Matt, October 3rd, 2008

When it existed, I used to sift through the Indeed “Jobgeist” tool to get a handle on job trends, i.e. - where they were being posted, which cities were on the “hot” list and which positions were most popular among job seekers. The term itself, “Jobgeist” seems it sounds oddly ominous…almost as bad as forced […]

A recent AP article that I read in Yahoo! highlights an issue of critical importance to employees throughout the country; namely, the cost of health insurance. The article points out that according to the Mercer consulting firm, nearly 59% are planning on cutting their own health care costs by passing along those costs to their […]
