Some New Things at Insourced

By: Matt, May 12th, 2007

Well, Insourced has undergone some changes recently. Yesterday marked the launch of the new job search portion of the site and, for those who read the blog, you’ll have noticed (I hope) that it’s undergone a re-design. Still some things to work out with IE, because every time I try to use a background image in a , things seem to get funky in IE7 (the version I have on my computer) and I confirmed last night that the same thing happens in IE6. Oh well, that’s just one of many reasons that I use Firefox. If it looks good from my end, it must look good from yours, right? Ha ha ha…if only that were the case.

The new site features only jobs listed in our own database, either crawled from direct employers or staffing firms or posted directly by such entities (no crawling of job boards - that’s already been done). We’ve also got some nice account functionality for those wishing to sign up (for free). Employers can of course post jobs and, if they wish, use our proprietary XML format to upload jobs in bulk. Job seekers, on the other side of the equation, can sign up for an account to receive e-mail alerts of jobs, save searches, and save jobs. Partnerships with JibberJobber and Payscale.com allow users to save employers or jobs to their JJ account and to quickly check on the salary range for any given position, respectively. Thanks to Jason Alba for creating a great tool and making it available to sites like ours so that our users may benefit.

For the newest iteration of Insourced, I’d like to once again thank Doug Winslow, code-slinger extraordinaire, who created this thing out of the convoluted vision of Mick and yours truly. I’d also like to thank Dwight Yoakam, Buck Owens (who’s regaling me as I write), The Bee Gees and various other extremely assorted musicians and bands who kept me partially sane as I banged my head against my desk learning XHTML and CSS design. Side note: AFTER creating the new look of Insourced, I actually coded another site entirely in notepad, no Dreamweaver cheating at all (toot toot). That said, if anyone sees anything that’s really ugly about the new design - I KNOW I’ve overlooked something, or multiple things - please let me know.
