Should You Make a Video Resume? Ask the Daily Show

By: Mick, May 11th, 2007

I’ve posted a few times here about video resumes and how valid they may or may not be as personal branding and recruiting tools in the years to come. I happened upon a really funny take on video resumes from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. In it, Stewart asks his video resume advocate, “So you’re saying we should create video resumes simply because we have the technology to do so?”

That’s a great question to consider when deciding whether or not a video resume is right for you.

I completely agree with you Mick. Video’s will be the future of resumes in the form of an individuals core message based around their Personal Brand and they will serve as the standard in recruitment.

It will be interesting to see if/when standards emerge for formatting a video resume similar to what we have for traditional resumes. I don’t think many employers/recruiters will want to sit through a 30-minute video resume, but engaging and on-point video profiles could be an outstanding method of supplementing your traditional resume and building or strengthening your personal brand.

With hyperlink, you can present the candidate’s video interviews, resume, and a brief summary. Hiring managers can view a candidate’s video interview in ten minutes. They can spend as much time as they like viewing the video. Check it out at www.interview-on-demand.com.

The best thing about a video resume is that before you bring that person into the office, you can get a sense of their personality. Personality is key if your hiring for a team position.

    Chris,

That’s a great point that I think I’ve overlooked in my thoughts on video resumes. Even a brief look “could” provide great insight into someone’s personality and their ability to communicate effectively.
