Robert Scoble on Google’s Hiring Practices
By: Mick, May 23rd, 2007
Robert Scoble, one the leading tech bloggers, has a post today about Google Hiring Funniness and how they seem to be making the same kind of low-level mistakes that many firms make when trying to identify, screen, and ultimately lure talented people into working for them. While Google is always going to be held to a higher standard when it comes to recruiting their talent, it speaks to the inherent flaws in traditional recruiting methods when even Google can’t seem to get it right.
And perhaps more interesting than the Google aspect of Scoble’s post are the comments from well-qualified programmers that have been unable to find great jobs. My sense is that these people may be looking for the “perfect position”, but they also may have the resume to justify such a specific employment goal.
It’s worth taking a look if you are a recruiter or someone who is surprised that their skillset hasn’t been able to generate a better job opportunity.
