Best Places to Find a Job

The Hire Sense offered a link to America’s best jobs in the hottest markets from CNNMoney.com yesterday and I happened to see it not long after I had read about Fairfax County, VA at Washingtonpost.com (again). As I commented at Hire Sense, Fairfax County, VA is expected to have more jobs than people at some point in the next 25 years. I’m not sure about the validity of 25-year projections for anything, at this point, but I did find it interesting that something like that could possibly develop so close to D.C. The types of jobs that will be flooding the area are not factory or manufacturing jobs. Rather, they are primarily expected to come from firms servicing lucrative government contracts in the areas of IT, Logistics, and Security.

But back to the CNNMoney.com article and the fact that, in the short term, it appears that Orlando, Florida is the place to be to find a job. As Hire Sense notes, the 2-year job growth forecast for Orlando is 6.8% and 5 of the top 15 cities to find a job for the same period are also located in Florida.

So it’s Florida for the short-term and Virginia in the long term. I smell a road trip.

Finding a job is never easy (even if you live in Orlando!) but recently a new tool has been in the news that allows applicants to not just show a list of qualifications but also gives them the opportunity to sell their personality!

Video resumes are a hot topic this spring. Many articles have been written discussing how video is being used as a way to stand out from other applicants in the job market.

MyPersonalBroadcast.com is a personal video broadcast service and valuable job networking tool combining the power of social networking and user-generated content with comprehensive tracking metrics. Plus, today it announced a partnership with local Atlanta businesses in a summer internship challenge, providing college students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in a variety of industries.

Also, internships are a key component of a college student’s education and start to career opportunities. When entering the workforce the more internship and work experience you have, the better. Not only do college students find these internship opportunities valuable, but companies also rely on their interns to help keep the company fresh and bring in new creative ideas.
