Still too Young to Retire?
By: Mick, March 22nd, 2007
If so, I highly recommend checking out 2Young2Retire.com, the web site of authors and retirment experts Marika and Howard Stone (they’re also not too young to blog). I came across an article Howard recently wrote for Bottom Line Personal (subscription required), which is really a sort of glorified advertising publication. But, the article from Howard offered legitimate information and resources on professional certifications and occupations that would be great for retirees to explore. Here are a few of the highlights from his list of suggestions:
- Life Coach: Become a mentor for people and help them with their personal and career goals.
- Find more information at Coachfederation.org.
- Financial Gerontologist: Advise older people on how to achieve their financial goals. An existing license in a field such as accounting, law, or insurance is required.
- Find more information at The American Institute of Financial Gerontology.
- Horticulturalist: Design landscapes and manage grounds for residential and commercial properties.
- Find more information at the web site of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers.
- Massage Therapist: No medical training or prior certifications are typically required.
- Find more information at The American Massage Therapy Association.
- Yoga Instructor: Many gyms and fitness clubs offer classes for certification.
- Find more information at your local gym or at The Yoga Site.
Howard also lists a few jobs that don’t require certifications:
- Cruise Ship Lecturer: Speak on popular lecture topics and cruise for free (not a bad deal).
- Find more information at Lynn Seldon.com.
- Senior Move Manager: Help seniors with the daunting task of relocating.
- Find more information at the National Association of Senior Move Managers.
And finally, a list of the top 50 companies for older workers, direct from the AARP.
