Recruiting Like You Mean It

A great post from The Itz Big Blog asks, “How important is passionate recruiting, really?” The post talks about a few aspects of passionate recruiting, but I think the one I like the best is the assertion that top talent is rarely out looking for jobs. A good recruiter must be able to identify the top talent and attract them with a better opportunity and a passionate approach. This requires more than simply posting a job on a job board or wading through resume databases. This means sourcing, networking, and finding the people that are great at what they do. Most likely, they are already doing a great job for someone else and they will not be easily swayed to consider a new position. And that is precisely where the drive and determination of a good recruiter is required - to convince a great employee that they could be happier in a new position.
It’s not easy, but the good recruiters make it happen every day.

Persuasion has much to do with recruiting and hiring, especially for someone who already has an established job and is looking for new work. The interviewing phase of the job application process is a two way street. First the individual mush sell themselves to the company or firm, and likewise the firm much be enticing to the individual looking for work. It works both ways.
