New Job Boards Targeting Boomers

By: Mick, January 23rd, 2007

An article in the NY Times talks about job boards targeting older candidates. I found the first blog reference to these new boards at Secrets of the Job Hunt. The Times talks about the emerging trend of targeting job candidates who are looking for late-career opportunities or who have retired and are interested in easing back into the workforce.

Jobs4Point0.com targets job seekers over 40. RetirementJobs.com certifies that employers posting jobs in its database have workplaces that are suitable for seniors. Seniors4Hire.org posts available jobs from around the nation. Yourencore.com specializes in helping retired engineers and scientists find short-term project work with employers. Seniorjobbank.com offers jobs as well as other resources geared toward seniors.

Statistics indicate that baby boomers are going to be the fastest growing segment of the job seeking community in the years to come. I’m sure these won’t be the last of the job boards to target this niche.

As Mick writes, RetirementJobs.com’s mission is to connect boomers and seniors with employers who value experience.

We’ve got thousands of jobs available from age-friendly employers at www.retirementjobs.com and growing every day.

RetirementJobs.com is also making a concerted advocacy effort to thwart age-bias and encouraging employers to retain and hire more “bolder” workers.

Niche boards in particular are getting more and more popular, with the mess that giants Monster and CareerBuilder have become. Bigger doesn’t necessarily mean better, and with more and more baby boomers staying in the workforce and diversity candidates entering the workforce, niche targeted job boards are the way to go.
