What Will 2007 Bring to the Recruitosphere?
By: Matt, December 29th, 2006
What will 2007 bring to the job seekers, employers and recruiters who make up the little corner of the world sometimes referred to as the “Recruitosphere”? Tough to say, but perhaps some late Christmas presents (or Hannukah, Kwanzaa or “Insert Holiday or Non-Religious Celebration of Choice Here” presents) will be delivered. For Joel Cheesman, whose blog I read almost daily, perhaps a 2007 Recruiting.com “Best Blog Award”, since he’s already taken the 2006 award and graciously accepted with a toast. I’m sure what Joel would REALLY like, however, is for his Cleveland Browns to draft Troy Smith.
This is where I take a little segue into NFL football…for Ben Roethlisberger, Quarterback of the once (but no longer) mighty Pittsburgh Steelers, I would offer as a late holiday gift a good painkiller prescription for when he plays the Ravens. And to tie it into the employment aspect of our site? Ben can seek short-term seasonal employment each football season. Twice a year, when the Steelers play the Ravens, Ben can get a job as the backup QB for the Steelers, which I’m sure he’ll welcome with open arms after being nearly mutilated by the Ravens’ defense this season. But I digress…
For Jason Goldberg, out-spoken CEO of Jobster.com, a PR Consultant might be good, but I’m sure he’ll take it only if it’s forced upon him from investors. You see, it seems that Jason likes to tell it like it is (for the most part) and even though he’s the CEO of a company flush with VC dollars, he still fits into the rough and tumble world of the blogosphere quite well. No pre-processed, packaged or canned responses from Jason. He just mixes it up with reporters and commentors on his blog, which is a breath of fresh air, IMHO. Most CEOs just spout the company line or have spokesperson do it, so I’m merely kidding when I say he needs a PR consultant (he may end up with one though).
How about for Tiffany, at Magic Pot of Jobs? Side note: the FIRST employment blog I EVER read was Tiffany’s. I’d say continued access to her natural and hilarious sarcasm and witticisms, which she seems to be able to summon at will and mold into little posts and rants that have every one of her readers knowingly nodding his or her head in agreement. Thanks for the intro to employment blogs, Tiffany!
How about for us here at Insourced? Well, I’d like a proprietary, feature-rich and free-to-the-public job board and job posting “module” for the site. Guess I’ll have to work on that one rather than receiving it as a gift…

Thanks, Matt … Funny you should mention me and Ben in the same post, by the way: http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=38015660&imageID=1580467026
Have a great 2007.

Joel - you must have had mixed emotions about meeting “Big” Ben”. Big rivalry there…
As you may have guessed, I’m from Maryland and a huge Ravens fan - I won’t even get into the Browns/Ravens rivalry, and the reasons for it (terrible way to lose a team, as we in B-more know all too well), but I’m pulling for your Browns for Troy Smith!

Thanks for sourcing our blog Matt.
Hey, you know, good consultants aren’t all that bad. If Jason Goldberg can find a good one, the consultant will control the message less and talk to him about consequences more. Spin doctors, after all, can be worse than a runaway executive. There are easy ways to balance somewhat accidental language without sacrificing authenticity. So here’s to hoping he finds the right one.
Happy New Year to you.

I’m so flattered that you like it. I must say, however, that while I can summon the sarcasm at will, I can’t always apply it topically. Otherwise, I’d post more often at MPOJ.
