Good News for IT Recruiters

By: Mick, September 7th, 2006

Having dabbled briefly in the world of IT recruiting, I’m well aware of the level of competition that exists in that sector - from the perspective of both the candidates AND the recruiters. Suffice to say, the recruiters are far more competitive. In this post from Recruiting.com, the definitive recruiting blog, we find the following eye-opening study results:

Sixty percent of IT pros are looking for new jobs, according to a new survey. Of the 60% who want a new job, 27% are “actively” searching; 52% are “somewhat actively” looking, and 20% say they’re “not very actively” hunting for new work, according to an online survey of 1,000 IT workers by the Computing Technology Industry Association, an IT industry member organization.

While that may come as a somewhat surprising percentage to those unfamiliar with IT recruiting, it is definitely understandable given the nature of IT positions in general and is especially unsurprising given the once-again surging demand for specific IT personnel. The majority of the IT professionals that I know personally have all changed positions within the last two years, most often for the standard reasons: higher salary and/or greater opportunity for advancement. I don’t expect any of them to stay where they are for longer than five years.
